28th February - The last day of February marks #RareDiseaseDay! Here, we would like to highlight the event that took place on the 19th of February - RD Open Chess Championship, with organizers, Persatuan Sukan dan Rekreasi OKU Negeri Sembilan (PESRON NS) & Persatuan Catur OKU Negeri Sembilan (PCOKUNS), & the tournaments directors, Ms. Safura & Mr. Yusuf who are part of the rare disease community.

A number of 166 players took place in this chess event, including Paralympian players - those who are visually & or physically impaired. It was a wonderful arena to be where everyone gathered together despite our differences and we all got to enjoy the game of chess which manages to unite everyone together.

The opening ceremony was graced by Dato Haji Muhammad Taufek bin Abdul Ghani - Government Exco for Negeri Sembilan & Chairman of the Negeri Sembilan Youth Development and Sports Action Committee (Dun Paroi), & Mr. Zul Fadhli bin Abdul Aziz - Director of Negeri Sembilan Youth and Sports Department.

Other honorable VIPs who attended the event include, Dato Hatijah binti Ayob - Chairperson for Rare Diseases Alliance Foundation Malaysia, Mr. Akhramsyah Muammar - President of Malaysian Chess Federation, Mr. Jasmi bin Shafie - Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Orang Kerdil Malaysia (PKOKM) (President of the National Organization of Malaysian Dwarfs), Mrs. Shakira Jamil Fisal - President of the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Association of Malaysia, Mrs. Nadiah Hanim binti Latif - President of the Rare Disease Association of Malaysia.

Not forgetting the organizers for the event, PESRON NS & PCOKUNS, with Sir Hj Ahmad Pudzi bin Suki as President for PESRON - Persatuan Sukan dan Rekreasi OKU Negeri Sembilan, & Mr. Abdul Rauf bin Deraman as President for PCOKUNS - Persatuan Catur OKU Negeri Sembilan.

The tournament was also featured by 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨 on their youtube channel & an article.

For the closing ceremony, the organizers prepared a mini buffet session and lucky draw prizes for the lucky ones who have not departed. We may not know what’s wrapped in the prizes, but it does look big! At the end of the day, the arbiters & the committee team each also received a little prize!
