DAT Chess Centre Official Opening Ceremony on 18th March with Blitz Tournament & Champion prize of RM500!!

DATCC is run by IA Hamid Majid of Malaysia. On a special note, the 18th of March is also the late Dato' Tan Chin Nam's birthday.

The DAT Chess Centre will officially be open again on the 18th of March! There will be a “makan-makan” session along with a friendly blitz session. The high tea includes curry puffs, goreng pisang (fried banana), teh tarik halia, mango juice, nasi lemak, & lastly nasi biryani, kindly sponsored by SMS Deen Jewellers! (Thank you!)

For the blitz event, it will have 7 rounds with 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment, (note that the time control may change, but that’s that for now). The champion will win RM500, 2nd - RM300, 3rd - RM200, then secondary prizes include best lady, best U12, and best veteran, each winner will receive RM100. The Prize fund is kindly sponsored by Mdm. Anonymous, (Thank you!).

And as of now, 1 of Malaysia’s top 10 players has registered 👀 Brace yourself for some good competition! Round 1 will start at 3pm. Make sure to register early as the space is quite limited, registration will close once it’s reached 50 pax. Click here to register now!

On another good note, the 18th of March is also the late Dato’ Tan Chin Nam’s birthday! In memory of him, it is an honourable day to get together & enjoy the game of chess! A little history on Dato’ Tan is that he was the first FIDE Deputy President for Asia in 1982, & was also president of the Malaysian chess federation for many decades. Not only a successful entrepreneur, - the Tan family does own Mid Valley Megamall which hosts the Malaysian Festival, but he also had a deep passion for chess.

I’m sure this sign brings nostalgic memories to not some, but many! For the past few decades, our chess community in Malaysia have grown together with DATCC. As the centre took a few changes in the venue over the years, from the old Wilayah Complex, to Setapak StarParc Point, and now at Medan Idaman Business Centre.
