The 9th Johor International Chess Open will take place from 18th to 23rd January 2025 at Fairview International School. The tournament has a total prize fund of RM52,760 equivalent to about USD11,700 for the classical, rapid, & blitz tournaments. Click here to view the tournament.

There are 2 categories for the 9th Johor International Open - Open & Challenger section. The Open is for all players, whereas the Challengers are for those rated below 2000. Players will play 9 rounds swiss with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment. The Open category has a total prize money of RM36,650 and the champion prize is RM10000 (USD2200)!! The top 5 prizes are as follows, the champion RM10,000, 2nd RM6000, 3rd RM4000, 4th RM300, 5th RM2000. You may view the list of players on chessresults.

There will also be the 11th Johor Open Rapid FIDE rated on 19th January. A rapid 7-round swiss event with 20 minutes time control. The champion takes home a RM1200 prize. Don't miss the chance to enjoy some fast-paced chess adrenaline! Register now for the Johor Open Rapid!

Those who REALLY love the adrenaline can also join the Johor Blitz event on 23rd January, held on the last day of the chess festival. It's a 3 minutes plus 2 seconds game played over 7 - 9 rounds. The champion takes home RM500! Register now for the Johor Blitz!

The official hotel is the Austin Park Hotel and interested players can contact the organizer for hotel rooms at a package rate. The first 5 GMs with ratings above 2400 is given a single room with free entry to the tournament, currently there should be 3 spots remaining based on the player's list. The first 10 IMs with rating above 2300 will get twin sharing rooms with free entry, currently there should be 5 spots remaining so better hurry up and register now!
